?NANO-TECH? FAN SET TO HELP BLOW AWAY THE THREAT OF FLU
The SmartQ Breezer brought to the UK by Mummy Stay Close, could be just what the Doctor ordered when it comes to protecting yourself and loved ones from viruses and bacteria – and with the world on full alert over scares of a Swine Flu Pandemic, the launch of this unique new product could not have been more timely.
Shown for the first time in the UK at the Harrogate Baby Fair, and now on sale at Mummy Stay Close as well as Jo Jo Maman Bebe and Amazon, the SmartQ ‘Baby’ and ‘Family’ Breezers are set to revolutionise control of the spread of viruses and bacteria with their unique protective action, working as a versatile and mobile decontamination and deodorizing unit giving any room a pure and clean air smell which is instantly noticeable.
The SmartQ Breezer is ideal for preventing the spread of airborne infections by way of neutralizing the bacteria and viruses; and will work not only in the home but also in public areas with notable uses including hospital wards and waiting rooms, care homes, day centres, schools and nurseries.
With the sole UK rights for distribution, Chris Foy, of Mummy Stay Close, a company specialising in family health and safety products said: “The SmartQ Breezer significantly reduces the spread of all viruses and bacteria and we believe it has the potential to be a powerful barrier in helping against the threat of a Swine Flu Pandemic especially for the “at risk” groups”.
Each of the fans is fitted with either a singular or double tubular UV-A lamp surrounded by an impregnated Titanium Dioxide (TI0²) catalyst. The nanotechnology of the titanium dioxide crystals combined with the UV-A light source incorporated within the fan produces hydroxyl radicals. The hydroxyl radicals are highly oxidizing which are non-harmful to humans and animals but deadly to bacteria and viruses. The fan throws out these hydroxyl radicals into the room which attach themselves to bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores and destroy them without leaving behind any harmful substances. Hydroxyl radicals last on average between 3 to 7 seconds and as they are carried by the breeze created by the fan can reach hard to reach areas.
The SmartQ Breezer purifies the air within a room and tests from German laboratories have seen the aerobic microbial count in a 20m³ room over a 60 minute period improved the air quality by over 95% for the Baby Breezer, and by over 99% for the Family Breezer. The use of the UV-A light catalyst within the Breezer unit is a non harmful ultra-violet light – not to be mistaken for the harmful UV-B lights which are used in tanning booths and UV-C light.
The ‘Baby’ Breezer is ideal for use in an area up to 60m³ and the ‘Family’ size unit can decontaminate a space up to 80m³.

Activity Equipment for your Baby?s First Year
With all the options out there, it can be overwhelming trying to select activity equipment such as baby swings for your child’s first year. Plus, if this is your first child, you may wonder what your baby will play with most during his or her first year and which baby activity equipment options will give you the most bang for your buck.
Baby’s first year
Your baby’s vision, coordination, muscle tone and intellect all increase at an amazing rate during his or her first year of life, but for many children, it’s not fast enough. Play equipment can help your child experience new sensations and develop muscles. Plus, items such as baby swings or bouncers help give parents a nice break and allow them to focus on other household responsibilities without having to worry about their baby’s safety.
Activity Equipment Options:
There are several baby activity equipment options to choose from including bouncers, swings, activity centers and doorway jumpers. Below you’ll find the details on each.
Baby Bouncers
A bouncer is a versatile, relatively inexpensive piece of baby equipment that your baby can enjoy from day one. You can put a newborn in a bouncer and continue to use it until your child reaches 25 lbs.
Bouncers provide safe and soothing motion for your baby and free you up to do other things. Plus, your baby is exercising and developing muscles while he or she plays. Just make sure to always supervise your baby while in the bouncer. Never put the bouncer on a table or on anything that your baby could bounce off of and keep it out of range of furniture and dangerous objects such as cords, hot surfaces and curtain pulls.
Baby Swings
Swings are one of many parents’ favorite ways to sooth a crying baby. You can usually begin using a swing when your baby is 6 to 8 weeks old, but you should check with your pediatrician first. Swings typically hold babies up to 15 to 25 lbs.
Look for a swing with safety straps and a comfortable seat. You’ll also need to choose between a wind-up model and a battery-operated model. The battery-operated models are nice because you don’t have to worry about periodically winding up the swing, but some parents like the slow winding down of the manual models.
Be sure to keep swings and all other action equipment on a level surface away from stairs.
Activity Centers
Exersaucers just may be the final frontier in baby action equipment. They swivel, rock, bounce, and turn a full 360 degrees, and they come fully loaded with toys to stimulate your baby’s hand-eye coordination, focus, and perception. Plus, exersaucers are safer than walkers because they are stationary, but they provide plenty of entertainment for your child.
Exersaucers are suitable for any child who’s old enough to sit up and control head movement, and most exersaucers can adjust to accommodate a toddler’s height.
Doorway Jumpers
Jumpers enable babies to experience the exciting possibilities of standing up straight and using their legs to stand up control movement. Baby jumpers are designed for children 6 months and older who are comfortable supporting weight on their legs.
Heartburn Remedies During Pregnancy That Can Help Relieve Your Pregnancy Heartburn Misery!
Heartburn relief during pregnancy is a common concern many pregnant women have. Read on to see what you what heartburn remedies during pregnancy are available.
What causes early pregnancy heartburn?
Heartburn in early pregnancy is a common complaint. The hormone progesterone is released as soon a woman becomes pregnant and can cause many early pregnancy symptoms which include pregnancy heartburn. Progesterone causes relaxation of the cardiac sphincter of the stomach which is the muscle between the stomach and the esophagus (food pipe). Relaxation of this muscle allows for some gastric acid and food to flow backwards and re-enter the esophagus (food pipe). Gastric acid irritates the lining of the esophagus causing a burning sensation in the center of the chest called pregnancy heartburn.
As your baby grows bigger and takes up more room in the abdominal area, the stomach itself is displaced and squashed. The growing uterus can permanently press on the cardiac sphincter of the stomach and allow gastric juices and food to constantly leak back into the esophagus (wind pipe) which may cause severe heartburn during pregnancy.
Heartburn remedies during pregnancy
Heartburn relief during pregnancy can be achieved by eating yogurt or drinking a glass of milk.
Try a tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm milk for pregnancy heartburn relief.
Eat smaller more frequent meals throughout the day rather than three large meals.
Avoid spicy, greasy, fatty foods, peppers and tomatoes produce extra gastric acid causing pregnancy heartburn.
Avoid foods that relax the cardiac sphincter of the stomach such as alcohol, peppermint, garlic, and chocolate.
Avoid eating for at least two hours before going to bed.
Do not lie down after eating to prevent the food from the stomach flowing back into your esophagus causing pregnancy heartburn.
Mild over-the-counter antacids such as Mylanta or Tums may prove helpful in relieving heartburn pregnancy symptom.
If your heartburn symptoms are severe or accompanied by headache or swelling (especially if you are later on in pregnancy) consult with your health care provider immediately as you may have pre-eclampsia of pregnancy.
Sleeping with extra pillows under your head to keep your stomach lower than your esophagus (food pipe) works very well to give you a better start to the day and a better nights sleep.
One of the most effective heartburn remedies during pregnancy is to try to prevent heartburn developing in the first place. The healthier you are prior pregnancy and the healthier you eat during pregnancy can have a direct correlation to the amount of pregnancy symptoms you have. Tips to Breastfeed your Baby
The first thing you notice about this book is its wonderful use of photographs, drawings and textbooks to emphasize its points. There are so many pictures of babies and boobies that it makes the sometimes troublesome subject of positioning and attachment obvious. For cultures such as the US and UK, where breastfeeding babies in public is not a common sight, these photographs can provide as powerful a message as the words themselves.
The bonding that comes from breastfeeding is unsurpassed. Breastfeeding lets the mother and baby interact more fully than bottle-feeding. You can snuggle up close to your baby and encourage eye contact. The skin-to-skin contact from breastfeeding benefits the baby immensely by making him feel safe and secure in mom’s arms.
Breastfeeding causes a close bond to form between mom and baby. This is more than just the time spent close together, this is actally a horomonal change in mom while she is nursing. A horomone called ‘prolactin’ is released as a mother breast feeds and this has been known to cause a relaxing effect on the mom. This whole experience is what develops this bond between the baby and mom that lasts a lifetime.
A common problem amongst breastfeeding mothers is allowing their baby to stop feeding before it has reached the hind milk. Do therefore ensure that your baby is latched on for sufficient time to obtain the hind milk and allow him or her to feed from the breast for as long as required before changing breasts. A practical tip in determining which breast should be fed from next is to place a tissue under your bra strap corresponding to the next breast which requires feeding.
Of course, you also have to consider the fact that learning how to breastfeed properly can not be done in an instant. One way to do this would be by making sure that you learn the techniques of breastfeeding. Fortunately for you, there are many websites that specialize in showing you how to breastfeed your child. There are also many websites that have breastfeeding videos. Of course, you also have to read on various websites about different breastfeeding techniques.
Be careful not to breastfeed for too long: you don’t want your child to rely on you for food. Part of independence is learning how to seek out food and feed one’s self. This takes time, but if you breastfeed for too long, you risk forming an unhealthy attachment with the child. Additionally, there is a social stigma attached to breastfeeding after the child becomes a toddler. Be aware of this when it comes to making the decision about when to end your breastfeeding.
Basically, the study found no risk of these disorders and diseases as a result of breastfeeding from mothers with silicone implants. The researchers decided that breastfeeding with silicone implants, and with implants in general is not a cause of esophageal or connective tissue disorders. In fact, more recent studies have revealed that silicone molecules are too large to pass into to the milk ducts, making it impossible for the material to contaminate the milk supply or affect the baby.

How To Choose The Best Baby Gift Basket
Are you planning a baby shower sometime in the near future? Whether it is for you, a family member or a friend, you should make sure you choose some baby gift baskets. Hold on, you shouldn’t choose just any one of them, you should choose the best baby gift baskets. What exactly would the best ones be? As you are reading this article, we are going to answer your question.
First of all, you could either make the basket or you could purchase it. Whatever you do, you should make sure it is something that is unique. When you purchase one from the local store, then you may end up getting the same one that someone else has gotten. With that said, we believe you should look on the Internet and get one. Chances are, your basket is going to be unique.
There are many things you could give as a gift for a baby. You could include some bath toys with bath soap, or you could include toys in the new baby gift basket. You may also get a case that is full of baby clothes. However, first, you need to make sure it is a boy or a girl. Remember, you are not one hundred percent sure, so you may want to hold on to that receipt in case you buy a lot of dresses and the baby turns out to be a boy.
The main importance of a baby gift basket is to make sure that the basket contains items that are going to be useful to the recipient. For a newborn baby gift basket, you might want to search for one that includes items such a mobile, changing mat, bottles, teethers, and rattles. You can also include things like CD’s with nursery rhymes, bibs, spoons, infant cups, and pacifiers. You can even get baby gift baskets which are made with furniture such as bassinets and cribs! Whatever you choose, just make sure that the basket’s contents suit the baby and its parents!
Buying Baby Clothing
If you’ve recently become pregnant you may be wondering how many items of baby clothing you’ll need to be prepared for your baby’s arrival. Even if you don’t usually think of yourself as an organised person, it still may put you at ease to know that at least a few things are taken care of before bubbie gets here. It is unrealistic for most to assume there will be plenty of opportunity after the baby comes to go out shopping. It is definitely more likely that the more that is done before your baby comes, the more relaxed and comfortable the parents will be. -
The last thing a new mother is wanting to do, is to spend her day out shopping with a tiny new baby. Even if the baby is very happy and sleepy it’s not ideal to be driving around shopping. Childcare is an option but for such a new one, many mothers will still be breastfeeding and find it difficult to stop what they are doing every two hours or the option of expressing in between feeds can be exhausting. Some mothers will run into problems during childbirth and may have had a c-section or other complications that may make it difficult to get out to buy baby clothing also in the first few weeks.
So how much do you need to buy as far as baby clothing goes? The first few months your baby will usually grow through the first few sizes pretty fast. This makes lots of mothers think they might not need very many suits but it is important to look at how much you will want to be washing and drying baby clothes. Some babies dirty up their clothes faster than others. If your baby suffers from anything like reflux they will sometimes vomit on their clothes more than other babies. While some mothers feel their baby gets vomit on them more often anyway! Your baby may be fine in one outfit for the day and a fresh one after bathtime for the night, other babies will need 3-4 outfits a day. So if you base your estimate on somewhere in between you may feel comfortable having 10 suits in a particular size and only need to wash a couple of times a week.
